The Platinum dioxide (PtO2), with the CAS registry number 1314-15-4 and EINECS registry number 215-223-0, has the systematic name of dioxoplatinum. It is a kind of inorganics, and often used as hydrogenation catalyst. And the molecular formula of this chemical is PtO2.
The physical properties of Platinum dioxide (PtO2) are as followings: (1)#H bond acceptors: 2; (2)#H bond donors: 0; (3)#Freely Rotating Bonds: 0; (4)Polar Surface Area: 34.14 Å2.
Preparation: Boil the concentrated pure H2PtCl6 solution and Na2CO3 concentrated solution to obtain PtO2.xH2O precipitate. Then kilndry it with the temperature of 200°C. Boil the precipitate with dilute Na2CO3 solution and distilled water to remove the chloride. And add dilute H2SO4 solution and distilled water to remove the alkali. After then, filter it and place it in water bath to make it dry.
You should be cautious while dealing with this chemical. It irritates to eyes, respiratory system and skin, and it also has risk of serious damage to eyes. What' s more, if contact with combustible material, it may cause fire. Therefore, you had better take the following instructions: Do not breathe dust; Keep away from combustible material; Wear suitable protective clothing, gloves and eye/face protection, and in case of contacting with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice; After contact with skin, wash immediately with plenty of ... (to be specified by the manufacturer).
