BACE inhibitors
BACE inhibitors are a class of drugs designed to inhibit the activity of the beta-site amyloid precursor protein cleaving enzyme 1 (BACE1), an aspartic protease that plays a crucial role in the formation of beta-amyloid peptides. These peptides aggregate to form amyloid plaques, a hallmark of Alzheimer's disease pathology. By blocking BACE1 activity, BACE inhibitors aim to reduce the production of beta-amyloid and, consequently, slow or prevent the progression of Alzheimer's disease.
