The invention discloses 2,6-dinitro-4-tert-amyl phenol and a preparation method thereof. The preparation method comprises the following steps: (1) dissolving p-tert-amyl phenol and an antioxidant in an organic solvent to prepare a fluid A, and diluting nitric acid in an organic acid to prepare a fluid B; (2) respectively pumping the fluid A and the fluid B into a micro-channel reactor through a metering pump according to a proper proportion, and carrying out dinitration at a proper temperature; and (3) carrying out vacuum distillation desolvation on the obtained nitration reaction solution, precipitating the desolventized distillate in ice water, filtering, washing with water, and drying. According to the method, the micro-channel reactor is utilized, the ratio of the raw materials to a low-strength nitrating agent is accurately controlled under the action of the antioxidant, high reaction conversion rate and high-selectivity reaction of the target product are realized at a proper temperature, and a high-purity and high-yield product is obtained through proper post-treatment.
