Protriptyline hydrochloride, also known as N-methyl-5H-dibenzo[a,d]-cycloheptene-5-propylamine hydrochloride or 5-(3-methylaminopropyl)-5H-dibenzo[a,d]cycloheptene hydrochloride, is a tricyclic antidepressant and a monoamine reuptake inhibitor. It is a structural isomer of nortriptyline and is marketed under the brand name Vivactil. Due to its monomethyl compound nature, protriptyline hydrochloride has a low sedative potential.
