Reaction of 9-arylmethylene-10-methyl-9,10-dihydroacridine (1) with more than two equivalents of m-chloroperoxybenzoic acid in CH2Cl2 affords intermediary β-hydroxy-tertiary-alkyl peroxyester (5) decomposing to N-methylacridone and aromatic aldehyde with chemiluminescence by a CIEEL mechanism.
