- Fabrication of Flat and Smooth Lead-Based Layered Perovskite Films at a Transfer Process of the Langmuir-Blodgett Method
-
This paper presents a novel approach for fabricating lead-based layered perovskite films. The perovskite structure was formed during the transfer of a perovskite-unform monolayer onto a substrate. The transferred film had a flat and smooth surface, and the surface roughness was greatly improved from 5.5 nm to 1.8 nm, compared to the transferred film of a perovskite-form monolayer on the water.

- Promotion of Appel-type reactions by N-heterocyclic carbenes
-
N-Heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) have been extensively used as a versatile class of catalysts and ligands in organocatalytic and organometallic chemistry. However, there are only a small number of synthetic applications where they act as reagents. Here we demonstrate that NHCs can be used as stoichiometric redox reagents for Appel-type halogenation reactions of alcohols. This new reactivity reveals a fresh and interesting aspect and enriches the chemistry of NHCs in an underexplored area. The potential of performing this chemical transformation at the catalytic level using an NHC-oxide derivative is also investigated.

- Glutamic acid derivatives as gelators for electrolyte of lithium ion batteries
-
Organic gelators of glutamic acid derivative were synthesized, which have been successfully used to gel commercial electrolyte for lithium ion battery. The organic gelators self-assembled to form 3D fibrillar structures with very high porosity in the electrolyte solvent. Thermal stability of the gel electrolyte increased with the length of side chain and concentration of gelators. When the side chain length of gelator was 22 carbons, the gel electrolyte could endure temperature higher than 60 °C with the addition 2 wt% gelator. The most prominent advantage of gel electrolyte over liquid electrolyte was that it could broaden the electrochemical stable window, which has potential application in high voltage lithium ion batteries. With the addition of organic gelator, conductivity of the gel electrolyte would decrease a little, but it still showed the conductivity-temperature behavior of liquid electrolyte. The cells with gel electrolyte showed similar cycling performance as those with liquid electrolyte, which indicated that the organic gelators of glutamic acid derivatives could be used in lithium ion batteries, especially in high voltage lithium ion batteries.

- Solution-processable small molecule semiconductors based on pyrene-fused bisimidazole and influence of alkyl side-chain on the charge transport
-
To explore the potential of pyrene-fused biimidazole as a building block for soluble small molecule semiconductors, we designed and synthesized PBI-L-Na and PBI-B-Na. Imidazole rings provided substitution positions for the solubilising groups at the K-region, however, DFT calculations revealed that the repulsive steric hindrance from the neighboring hydrogen atoms on pyrene forced alkyl side chains into a twisted conformation. Thus, side chains on this type of molecule exerted a prominent influence on the molecular packing and affected their optoelectronic properties intensively in the solid state. PBI-L-Na exhibited a more ordered packing of the large conjugated plane with a π-π stacking distance of 0.36 nm and showed a hole mobility up to 0.12 cm2 V-1 s-1. Bulkier branched chains provided better solubility but impeded molecular packing of PBI-B-Na, thus giving a hole mobility of 4.6 × 10-3 cm2 V-1 s-1.
