- Construction of Helically Stacked π-Electron Systems in Poly(quinolylene-2,3-methylene) Stabilized by Intramolecular Hydrogen Bonds
-
π-Stacked polymers, which consist of layered π-electron systems in a polymer, can be expected to be used in molecular electronic devices. However, the construction of a stable π-stacked structure in a polymer is considerably challenging because it requires sophisticated designs and precise synthetic methods. Herein, we present a novel π-stacked architecture based on poly(quinolylene-2,3-methylene) bearing alanine derivatives as the side chain, obtained through the living cyclo-copolymerization of an o-allenylaryl isocyanide. In the resulting polymer, the neighboring quinoline rings of the main chain form a layered structure with π–π interactions, which is stabilized by intramolecular hydrogen bonds. The vicinal quinoline units form two independent helices and the whole molecule is a twisted-tape structure. This structure is established on the basis of UV/CD spectra, theoretical calculations, and atomic-force microscopy.

- 1,2-Dibutoxyethane-Promoted Oxidative Cleavage of Olefins into Carboxylic Acids Using O2 under Clean Conditions
-
Herein, we report the first example of an effective and green approach for the oxidative cleavage of olefins to carboxylic acids using a 1,2-dibutoxyethane/O2 system under clean conditions. This novel oxidation system also has excellent functional-group tolerance and is applicable for large-scale synthesis. The target products were prepared in good to excellent yields by a one-pot sequential transformation without an external initiator, catalyst, and additive.

- Visible-light-mediated organoboron-catalysed metal-free dehydrogenation of N-heterocycles using molecular oxygen
-
The surge of photocatalytic transformation not only provides unprecedented synthetic methods, but also triggers the enthusiasm for more sustainable photocatalysts. On the other hand, oxygen is an ideal oxidant in terms of atom economy and environmental friendliness. However, the poor reactivity of oxygen at the ground state makes its utilization challenging. Herein, a visible-light-induced oxidative dehydrogenative process is disclosed, which uses an organoboron compound as the photocatalyst and molecular oxygen as the sole oxidant.Viathis approach, an array of N-heterocycles have been accessed under metal-free mild conditions, in good to excellent yields.

- Tandem one-pot CO2 reduction by PMHS and silyloxycarbonylation of aryl/vinyl halides to access carboxylic acids
-
The present study discloses the synthesis of aryl/vinyl carboxylic acids from Csp2-bound halides (Cl, Br, I) in a carbonylative path by using silyl formate (from CO2 and hydrosilane) as an instant CO-surrogate. Hydrosilane provides hydride for reduction and its oxidation product silanol serves as a coupling partner. Mono-, di-, and tri-carboxylic acids were obtained from the corresponding aryl/vinyl halides.

-
We describe an eco-friendly, practical and operationally simple procedure for the bis(methoxypropyl) ether-promoted oxidation of aromatic alcohols into aromatic carboxylic acids and aromatic ketones with atmospheric dioxygen as the sole oxidant. This chemical process is clean with high conversion and good selectivity, and an external initiator, catalyst, additive and base are not required. The virtue of this reaction is highlighted by its easily available and economical raw materials and excellent functional group tolerance (acid-, base- and oxidant-labile groups).

- Room Temperature Carbonylation of (Hetero) Aryl Pentafluorobenzenesulfonates and Triflates using Palladium-Cobalt Bimetallic Catalyst: Dual Role of Cobalt Carbonyl
-
An efficient method for the carbonylation of (hetero) aryl pentafluorobenzenesulfonates and triflates under exceptionally mild conditions using palladium/dicobalt octacarbonyl [Pd/Co2(CO)8] has been developed. Besides acting as carbon monoxide (CO) source, Co2(CO)8enhances the reaction rate by accelerating the CO insertion through an in situ generated bimetallic palladium cobalt tetracarbonyl [Pd-Co(CO)4] complex. Under the optimized reaction condition, carbonylation of a wide range of activated and deactivated, as well as sterically hindered and heteroaromatic, substrates proceeded efficiently at room temperature. The high chemoselectivity and improved synthesis of biologically relevant Isoguvacine and Lazabemide intermediates highlights its scope as a valuable synthetic method. The generality of this protocol was further extended to other electrophiles (bromides, chlorides and tosylates). (Figure presented.).

- Synthesis and Characterization of Iron-Nitrogen-Doped Graphene/Core-Shell Catalysts: Efficient Oxidative Dehydrogenation of N-Heterocycles
-
An important goal for nanocatalysis is the development of flexible and efficient methods for preparing active and stable core-shell catalysts. In this respect, we present the synthesis and characterization of iron oxides surrounded by nitrogen-doped-graphene shells immobilized on carbon support (labeled FeOx@NGr-C). Active catalytic materials are obtained in a simple, scalable and two-step method via pyrolysis of iron acetate and phenanthroline and subsequent selective leaching. The optimized FeOx@NGr-C catalyst showed high activity in oxidative dehydrogenations of several N-heterocycles. The utility of this benign methodology is demonstrated by the synthesis of pharmaceutically relevant quinolines. In addition, mechanistic studies prove that the reaction progresses via superoxide radical anions (·O2-).

- Targeting dopamine D3 and serotonin 5-HT1A and 5-HT2A receptors for developing effective antipsychotics: Synthesis, biological characterization, and behavioral studies
-
Combination of dopamine D3 antagonism, serotonin 5-HT1A partial agonism, and antagonism at 5-HT2A leads to a novel approach to potent atypical antipsychotics. Exploitation of the original structure-activity relationships resulted in the identification of safe and effective antipsychotics devoid of extrapyramidal symptoms liability, sedation, and catalepsy. The potential atypical antipsychotic 5bb was selected for further pharmacological investigation. The distribution of c-fos positive cells in the ventral striatum confirmed the atypical antipsychotic profile of 5bb in agreement with behavioral rodent studies. 5bb administered orally demonstrated a biphasic effect on the MK801-induced hyperactivity at dose levels not able to induce sedation, catalepsy, or learning impairment in passive avoidance. In microdialysis studies, 5bb increased the dopamine efflux in the medial prefrontal cortex. Thus, 5bb represents a valuable lead for the development of atypical antipsychotics endowed with a unique pharmacological profile for addressing negative symptoms and cognitive deficits in schizophrenia.
