Description

Antazoline is a member of the imidazoline class, specifically 2-aminomethyl-2-imidazoline, with the exocyclic amino hydrogens replaced by benzyl and phenyl groups. It is a white, odorless crystalline powder with a bitter taste and is sparingly soluble in alcohol and water, while being practically insoluble in benzene and ether. Antazoline is an antihistaminic agent that is only found in individuals who have taken the drug.

Uses

Used in Pharmaceutical Industry:
Antazoline is used as an antihistaminic agent for treating symptoms of allergies, such as itching, redness, and swelling. It works by blocking the action of histamine, a compound released during an allergic reaction, thus providing relief from allergy symptoms.
Used in Ophthalmology:
In the field of ophthalmology, Antazoline is used as a vasoconstrictor in eye drops to reduce redness and swelling in the eyes caused by allergies or other irritants. Its vasoconstrictive properties help to narrow the blood vessels in the eye, reducing the appearance of redness.
Used in Dermatology:
In dermatology, Antazoline is used topically as a cream or ointment to alleviate itching, redness, and swelling associated with various skin conditions, such as eczema, dermatitis, and insect bites. Its antihistaminic properties help to reduce inflammation and provide relief from itching and discomfort.
Used in Veterinary Medicine:
Antazoline is also used in veterinary medicine as an antihistaminic agent to treat allergic reactions in animals, such as itching, redness, and swelling. It can be administered topically or orally, depending on the specific condition being treated and the animal's needs.

Therapeutic Function

Antihistaminic

Safety Profile

Poison by ingestion, subcutaneous, and intraperitoneal routes. An eye irritant. When heated to decomposition it emits toxic fumes of NOx.

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 91-75-8 includes 5 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 2 digits, 9 and 1 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 7 and 5 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 91-75:
(4*9)+(3*1)+(2*7)+(1*5)=58
58 % 10 = 8
So 91-75-8 is a valid CAS Registry Number.

The Preparation and Characterization of New Antazoline Salts with Dicarboxylic Acids

Dravniece, Agnese,Acti??, Andris,Krukle-Berzi?a, Kristine,Sarcevi?a, Inese

, p. 154 - 164 (2015)

New antazoline salts with organic acids (fumaric acid, oxalic acid, and maleic acid) were prepared. The effect of the crystallization solvent and mechanochemical treatment on the crystalline forms of these salts was studied. Two polymorphs of antazoline hydrogen maleate were identified and their relative stability was determined. The molecular structures of antazoline hydrogen oxalate and antazoline hydrogen maleate showed differences in antazoline cation conformation. In crystal structures of all salts both imidazoline nitrogens of antazoline cation are involved in hydrogen bond formation with carboxyl groups of the acid.
