9005-67-8 Usage
Description
Tween 60, also known as polysorbate 60, is a nonionic, water-dispersible surface-active agent that is very hydrophilic. It is a polymer composed of PEG-ylated sorbitan, where the total number of poly(ethylene glycol) units is 20 and a single terminal is capped by a stearate group. It is manufactured by reacting stearic acid with sorbitol and then reacting the product with ethylene oxide. It has a faint, characteristic odor and a warm, somewhat bitter taste.
Uses
Used in Plastic & Polymers Industry:
Tween 60 is used as an emulsifier for plastic and polymer applications, such as Lonzest(R) SMS-20.
Used in Personal Care Industry:
Tween 60 is used as an emulsifier in personal care products, such as Glycosperse(R) S-20 KFG. Suggested applications include cakes, shortenings, milk substitute, and chocolate-flavored syrup.
Used in Food Industry:
Tween 60 is used as an emulsifier in various food products, such as whipped vegetable toppings for overrun and lightness, cakes for increased volume and fine grain, icings and confectionery for lightness and syneresis control, and salad dressing for emulsion stability. It is frequently used with sorbitan monostearate or mono and diglycerides, with a typical usage range of 0.10-0.40%.
Used in Pharmaceutical Industry:
Tween 60 is used as an emulsifier in the formulation of azalide antibiotics.
Used in Niosome Formulations:
Tween 60 is used in the formulation of niosomes, which are vesicular systems made from non-ionic surfactants, for various pharmaceutical and cosmetic applications.
Flammability and Explosibility
Nonflammable
Safety Profile
Moderately toxic by
intravenous route. Experimental
reproductive effects. Questionable
carcinogen with experimental tumorigenic
data. When heated to decomposition it
emits acrid smoke and irritating fumes.
Check Digit Verification of cas no
The CAS Registry Mumber 9005-67-8 includes 7 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 4 digits, 9,0,0 and 5 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 6 and 7 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 9005-67:
(6*9)+(5*0)+(4*0)+(3*5)+(2*6)+(1*7)=88
88 % 10 = 8
So 9005-67-8 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
