Uses

Used in Microscopy:
CI 50200 is used as a bacterial stain for microscopy, allowing for the clear visualization and identification of bacterial cells. Its staining properties enable researchers to differentiate between various types of bacteria, facilitating the study of their morphology and characteristics.
Used in Histology:
CI 50200 is used as a nuclear stain in histology, enabling the clear visualization of cell nuclei. This application is particularly useful in the study of tissue structure and function, as well as in the diagnosis of various diseases and conditions.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Phenosafranin (PSF) is a red dye released from cells with intact plasma membrane. PSF at lower concentration is used to stain mitochondria supravitally.

Purification Methods

Crystallise the chloride from dilute HCl. It has UV with at 530nm in H2O. The picrate decomposes on heating and has a solubility of 0.0048% in H2O at 18o. [Beilstein 23 H 395, Beilstein 25 H 394, 25 I 654, 25 II 338, 25 III/IV 3050.]

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 81-93-6 includes 5 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 2 digits, 8 and 1 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 9 and 3 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 81-93:
(4*8)+(3*1)+(2*9)+(1*3)=56
56 % 10 = 6
So 81-93-6 is a valid CAS Registry Number.

1-(Phenylamino)pseudo-mauveine: A new water soluble phenazine dye

Plater, M. John,Jackson, Toby

, p. 437 - 442 (2014/08/05)

1-(Phenylamino)pseudo-mauveine was prepared by the oxidation of 1,3,5-tris(phenylamino)benzene and p-phenylenediamine with potassium dichromate. The absorption maximum of 535 nm is shifted hypsochromically by about 20 nm compared to that for pseudo-mauvei

Acid-base catalyzed photoinduced redox reactions of phenosafranin-EDTA system in photoelectrochemical cell

Jana, Asok K.,Bhowmik, Benoy B.

, p. 351 - 355 (2007/10/02)

The photogalvanic effect in phenosafranin-EDTA aqueous system has been studied at different pH.The photovoltage growth and decay curves follow the functional forms related to the relaxation times.Under the experimental conditions, the inverse of relaxation time or the rate of electrode reaction is pH-dependent.The rate constants (k) of forward and backward reactions at 25 deg C have been calculated. From the plot of log k versus pH, catalytic constants for H(+) and OH(-) have been determined. The calculated free energy of electron transfer across the electrode/electrolyte interface is about -5.66 kJ mol-1.
