Usage

Description

Rose oil, also known as rose essential oil, is a concentrated liquid containing volatile aroma compounds from rose petals. It is obtained through the process of steam distillation of rose buds, which are picked in the early morning hours after the dew has evaporated. Rose oil is considered one of the most expensive essential oils due to the large number of rose petals required to produce a small amount of oil. It is known for its sweet, floral scent and is used in various applications across different industries.

Uses

Used in Perfumery:
Rose oil is used as a fragrance ingredient in various perfumes for its sweet, floral scent. It is a key component of the conventional rose-jasmine complex found in countless fashion perfumes, as well as in cassie modifications, carnation bases, and fantasy bouquets.
Used in Cosmetics:
Rose oil is used as a pharamaceutic aid in cosmetics for its antiseptic, disinfectant, slightly tonic, and soothing properties. It is also known for its moisturizing and moisture-retention abilities, making it helpful in cases of skin redness or inflammation, and where moisturization and regeneration are needed. It may be beneficial to all skin types, particularly mature, dry, or sensitive skins.
Used in Flavoring:
Rose oil is used as a flavoring agent in lozenges, ointments, and toilet preparations for its pleasant taste and aroma.
Used in Aromatherapy:

Preparation

By steam distillation of the flowers of Rosa centifolia L. (Gildemeister & Hoffman, 1959; Naves, 1974).

Essential oil composition

Although rose oil is a very complicated mixture of over 100 different components, the major compound recovered from the blossom is phenylethyl alcohol. The other main components are the rose alcohols geraniol, citronellol and nerol. Several other components are present in very small amounts, but are very important for the overall quality of the oil. For example, the compound damascenone, an important odor constituent, is present in a relatively minor amount.
