41927-89-3 Usage

Description

Folinic acid calcium salt pentahydrate, also known as calcium folinate or leucovorin calcium, is a water-soluble compound derived from folic acid. It is a naturally occurring form of folate that plays a crucial role in the synthesis of nucleic acids and the metabolism of certain amino acids. The calcium salt form enhances its solubility and stability, making it suitable for pharmaceutical applications.

Uses

Used in Pharmaceutical Industry:
Folinic acid calcium salt pentahydrate is used as an anti-anemic agent for the treatment of folate deficiency. It helps in the production of red blood cells and the prevention of anemia by providing a source of folate, which is essential for DNA synthesis and cell division.
Folinic acid calcium salt pentahydrate is also used as an antidote for the toxicity caused by folic acid antagonists, such as methotrexate. It counteracts the effects of these drugs by providing a source of reduced folate, which is necessary for the synthesis of essential cellular components.
Brand Name:
One of the well-known brand names for folinic acid calcium salt pentahydrate is Wellcovorin, manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline. This brand is widely recognized and used in the treatment of various conditions related to folate deficiency and as an antidote for folic acid antagonists.

Clinical Use

Folinic acid rescue Enhancement of 5-fluorouracil cytotoxicity in advanced colorectal cancer Folate deficiency

Drug interactions

Potentially hazardous interactions with other drugs Should not be administered simultaneously with a folic acid antagonist as this may nullify the effect of the antagonist. Cytotoxics: avoid with panitumumab and raltitrexed.

Metabolism

Folinic acid is a racemate where the L-form (L-5- formyl-tetrahydrofolate, L-5-formyl-THF), is the active enantiomer. The major metabolic product of folinic acid is 5-methyl-tetrahydrofolic acid (5-methyl-THF) which is predominantly produced in the liver and intestinal mucosa. 80-90% with the urine (5- and 10-formyltetrahydrofolates inactive metabolites), 5-8% with the faeces.

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 41927-89-3 includes 8 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 5 digits, 4,1,9,2 and 7 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 8 and 9 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 41927-89:
(7*4)+(6*1)+(5*9)+(4*2)+(3*7)+(2*8)+(1*9)=133
133 % 10 = 3
So 41927-89-3 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
