38854-46-5 Usage
Description
N',N'',N''',N'''',N'''''-Hexaacetylchitohexaose is a chitohexaose derivative, which is a hexamer of N-acetylglucosamine, a subunit of the natural polymer chitin. It has a cation exchange capacity of approximately 1.4 meq/g and has been studied for its anti-tumor effects. It also functions as an elicitor in plants, inducing the expression of chitinases, and can bind LysM domains on certain proteins.
Uses
Used in Antitumor Applications:
N',N'',N''',N'''',N'''''-Hexaacetylchitohexaose is used as an antitumor agent, with various publications citing its use in mutagenesis studies due to its antitumor effects. It has been studied for its potential to heighten the immune response against Pseudomonas and Listeria in mice, stimulate cytokine secretion in mesenchymal stem cells, and inhibit nitric oxide production by activated macrophages.
Used in Plant Elicitor Applications:
N',N'',N''',N'''',N'''''-Hexaacetylchitohexaose is used as a plant elicitor, inducing the expression of chitinases in plants. This can help enhance the plant's defense mechanisms against pathogens.
Used in Enzyme Substrate Applications:
N',N'',N''',N'''',N'''''-Hexaacetylchitohexaose is used as a substrate for lysozyme, an enzyme that breaks down chitin. This can be useful in various biotechnological and research applications.
Used in Protein Interaction Applications:
N',N'',N''',N'''',N'''''-Hexaacetylchitohexaose is used to bind LysM domains on certain proteins, such as an endopeptidase of T. thermophilus. This can be useful in studying protein-protein interactions and their roles in various biological processes.
Reactions
Chitohexaose has attracted wide interest due to its special bioactivities and these potential activities are significantly related to N-acetylation.
Herein, six chitohexaose fractions with different degrees of acetylation were prepared by selective N-acetylation and ion-exchange chromatography and further analyzed by ESI/MS.
It is revealed that all the six N-acetylated chitohexaoses were of single molecular weight, the molecular weights of which were exactly assigned to 1026.44 Da, 1068.44 Da, 1110.48 Da, 1152.48 Da, 1194.49 Da, and 1236.48 Da, respectively. These results suggested that the six prepared N-acetylated chitohexaoses were N-acetylchitohexaose (D5A1), di-N-acetylchitohexaose (D4A2), tri-N-acetylchitohexaose (D3A3), tetra-N-acetylchitohexaose (D2A4), penta-N-acetylchitohexaose (D1A5), and hexa-N-acetylchitohexaose (A6), respectively, which are of great significance to screen their bioactivities and discover well-defined chitooligosaccharide molecules as potential drugs.

Check Digit Verification of cas no
The CAS Registry Mumber 38854-46-5 includes 8 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 5 digits, 3,8,8,5 and 4 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 4 and 6 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 38854-46:
(7*3)+(6*8)+(5*8)+(4*5)+(3*4)+(2*4)+(1*6)=155
155 % 10 = 5
So 38854-46-5 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
