Description
6-(5-Chloro-2-hydroxy-4-sulfophenylazo)-5-hydroxy-1-naphthalenesulfonic acid disodium salt is a water-soluble dye that exhibits a purple color in aqueous solutions. It has a water solubility of 50 g/l at 80°C and is slightly soluble in alcohol. The dye undergoes color changes in the presence of different acids, turning blue-purple in concentrated sulfuric acid, pink upon dilution, yellow-brown in concentrated nitric acid, and red when mixed with concentrated hydrochloric acid. It also turns magenta when combined with strong caustic substances.
