Cerium trihydroxide is used as an opacifying agent in glazes and enamels, enhancing the aesthetic and functional properties of ceramic products. Its ability to create a white, opaque layer contributes to the overall quality and appearance of the finished ceramic items.
Used in Glass Manufacturing:
In the glass industry, cerium trihydroxide is utilized as a coloring agent, imparting a yellow hue to the glass. This property allows for the creation of a wide range of colored glass products, catering to various design and functional requirements.
Used in Lighting Applications:
The crude form of cerium trihydroxide is employed in flaming arc lamps, where its unique properties contribute to the efficient and effective functioning of these lighting devices.
Used in Chemical Synthesis:
Cerium trihydroxide serves as a key starting material in the preparation of several other cerium salts. These salts find applications in various fields, including catalysis, electronics, and metallurgy, further expanding the utility of cerium trihydroxide.
Preparation
Cerium(III) hydroxide is obtained in industrial scale from monazide sand, (Ce, La, Th)PO4. In the laboratory, it may be prepared by treating caustic soda solution with cerium(III) chloride, followed by crystallization. CeCl3 + 3NaOH → Ce(OH)3 + NaCl.
Check Digit Verification of cas no
The CAS Registry Mumber 15785-09-8 includes 8 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 5 digits, 1,5,7,8 and 5 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 0 and 9 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 15785-09:
(7*1)+(6*5)+(5*7)+(4*8)+(3*5)+(2*0)+(1*9)=128
128 % 10 = 8
So 15785-09-8 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
