Calcipotriol Monohydrate is a low-calcemic vitamin D receptor (VDR) agonist, which is approximately 200 times less potent in its effects on calcium metabolism than vitamin D (1,25[OH]D3). It is a white or almost white, crystalline powder that binds to the VDR, increasing the transcription factor AP-1, which is crucial for keratinocyte differentiation. Calcipotriol Monohydrate also reduces the expression of JunB protein, a transcriptional activator in the inflammatory response, and induces the expression of thymic stromal lymphopoietin, which promotes T-cell differentiation in keratinocytes.
