Description

Arsenic Pentasulphide, also known as Arsenic Sulfide, is a chemical compound with the formula As2S5. It is a yellow-brown glassy amorphous solid that sublimes on heating and decomposes around 500°C. Arsenic Pentasulphide is insoluble in cold water and dissolves in alkalies, solutions of alkali metal sulfides, and nitric acid. It is stable in air up to 95°C and can be prepared by fusing arsenic (As) and sulfur (S) or by passing hydrogen sulfide (H2S) through a hydrochloric acid (HCl) solution of arsenic acid.

Uses

1. Used in Glass Industry:
Arsenic Pentasulphide is used as a reactant for the preparation of glasses with small gold additions, which possess photoluminescent and conductive properties. This application is particularly useful in creating glasses with enhanced visual and electrical characteristics.
2. Used in Chemical Synthesis:
Arsenic Pentasulphide serves as a reactant for the preparation of silver thioarsenate complex ethylenediammonium salt, which is an important compound in various chemical processes.
3. Used in Light Filters and Pigments:
Arsenic Pentasulphide is utilized in thin sheets as a light filter due to its yellow-brown color and opacity. Additionally, it is used as a pigment in the paint industry, where its unique color and properties contribute to the creation of various shades and effects.
4. Used as a Paint Pigment:
Arsenic Pentasulphide is used as a pigment in the paint industry, providing a distinct yellow or orange color to the paint. Its stability in air up to 95°C makes it a suitable choice for various applications.

Preparation

Arsenic pentasulfide is prepared by precipitation from an acidic solution of orthoarsenic acid, H3AsO4, or arsenic pentachloride, AsCl5 or any other soluble As(V) salt by passing hydrogen sulfide. It may be also prepared by heating a mixture of arsenic and sulfur, extracting the fused mass with ammonia solution and reprecipitating arsenic pentasulfide at low temperature by addition of HCl.

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 1303-34-0 includes 7 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 4 digits, 1,3,0 and 3 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 3 and 4 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 1303-34:
(6*1)+(5*3)+(4*0)+(3*3)+(2*3)+(1*4)=40
40 % 10 = 0
So 1303-34-0 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
