12039-13-3 Usage

Description

Titanium(IV) Sulfide, also known as titanium disulfide, is a yellowish-brown powder with a hexagonal crystal structure. It is sensitive to moisture and decomposes upon contact with steam, forming hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and titanium dioxide (TiO2). TITANIUM(IV) SULFIDE is obtained as a product of the reaction between hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and titanium tetrachloride (TiCl4) at high temperatures (around 600°C). Titanium(IV) Sulfide possesses high electrical conductivity and is known for its applications in various industries due to its unique properties.

Uses

1. Used in Solid Lubricant Applications:
Titanium(IV) Sulfide is used as a solid lubricant due to its ability to reduce friction and wear between moving parts. This application is particularly useful in situations where traditional liquid lubricants may not be suitable or effective.
2. Used in Rechargeable Batteries:
Titanium(IV) Sulfide serves as a cathode material in rechargeable batteries, such as solid-state lithium batteries. Its high electrical conductivity and stability make it an ideal choice for this application.
3. Used in Corrosion Resistance Alloys:
TITANIUM(IV) SULFIDE is utilized in the development of corrosion-resistant alloys, which are essential for various industrial applications where materials are exposed to harsh environments.
4. Used in Hybrid Electric Vehicles and Plug-in Electric Vehicles:

6. Used in Chloralkali Electrolysis, Electrodialysis, Galvanic Technology, Light Bulbs, and Bone Pins:
Titanium electrodes, which utilize the properties of Titanium(IV) Sulfide, are employed in various industrial processes and applications, including chloralkali electrolysis, electrodialysis, galvanic technology, light bulb production, and the manufacturing of bone pins for medical use.

Air & Water Reactions

Contact with water leads to the slow evolution of hydrogen sulfide, a toxic and flammable gas.

Reactivity Profile

TITANIUM(IV) SULFIDE reacts with acids to generate hydrogen sulfide, a toxic gas. Reacts slowly with water and is decomposed by steam, generating hydrogen sulfide.

Health Hazard

Fire will produce irritating, corrosive and/or toxic gases. Inhalation of decomposition products may cause severe injury or death. Contact with substance may cause severe burns to skin and eyes. Runoff from fire control may cause pollution.

Fire Hazard

Flammable/combustible material. May ignite on contact with moist air or moisture. May burn rapidly with flare-burning effect. Some react vigorously or explosively on contact with water. Some may decompose explosively when heated or involved in a fire. May re-ignite after fire is extinguished. Runoff may create fire or explosion hazard. Containers may explode when heated.

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 12039-13-3 includes 8 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 5 digits, 1,2,0,3 and 9 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 1 and 3 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 12039-13:
(7*1)+(6*2)+(5*0)+(4*3)+(3*9)+(2*1)+(1*3)=63
63 % 10 = 3
So 12039-13-3 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
