ALPHA-CGRP (8-37) (HUMAN), also known as Calcitonin Gene-Related Peptide Fragment 8-37 human, is a 37-amino-acid vasoactive neuropeptide derived from the calcitonin/calcitonin gene-related peptide gene complex. It is found in the central and peripheral nervous systems and is more potent than other vasodilators like adenosine, substance P, or acetylcholine. The CALCA gene is located on human chromosome 11p15.2-p15.1, and procalcitonin (PCT) is a calcitonin (CT) precursor.

Selective competitive antagonist at CGRP receptors, but not at calcitonin receptors.Calcitonin gene-related peptide (CALCA) serves as a proangiogenic growth factor in the development of human placenta. Mutations of CALCA gene is associated with Parkinson′s disease, ovarian cancer and essential hypertension. CALCA induce vascular endothelial cell proliferation, migration and capillary-like tube formation.
