117399-94-7 Usage

Description

Endothelin 1 (ET-1) is an active peptide derived from various mammalian sources, including humans and porcine, known for its potent vasoconstriction effects. It is primarily produced by vascular endothelial cells, but can also be synthesized by cardiomyocytes, vascular smooth muscle cells, renal tubular epithelial cells, and glial cells. This suggests that ET-1 plays a significant role in the complex regulatory mechanisms of multiple organs.

Uses

Used in Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Research:
Endothelin 1 is utilized as a potent agonist for ETA and ETB endothelial receptors, which are crucial in various physiological and pathological processes. It is particularly useful in the study of vascular biology, cardiovascular diseases, and the development of therapeutic strategies targeting these receptors.
Used in ELISA Plate Coatings:
ET-1 is employed for coating wells in polystyrene ELISA plates, which is essential for the detection and quantification of specific biomarkers or antibodies in various diagnostic and research applications.
Used in Hypoxia and Angiogenesis Research:
Endothelin 1 induces the production of hypoxia-inducible factor 1α (HIF-1α), a key regulator of cellular responses to hypoxia. This, in turn, stimulates the production of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), a critical factor in angiogenesis and the formation of new blood vessels. ET-1 is used in research to understand the interplay between hypoxia, angiogenesis, and the role of HIF-1α and VEGF in various diseases, including cancer.

Biological Functions

Endothelins are a family of vasoactive peptides secreted by endothelial cells. The three major endothelin peptides are all composed of 21 amino acids. Endothelins are the most potent vasoconstrictors known. Contraction of vascular smooth muscle in response to endothelin is associated with an increase in intracellular calcium. Increases in endothelin levels have been reported in patients with vasospastic, hypoxic, and ischemic diseases. The two identified isoforms of endothelin receptors have differing affinity for the three endothelin peptides. Selective and nonselective endothelin receptor antagonists are in development for potential use in the treatment of hypertension and other disorders associated with increased vascular resistance.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Potent agonist for ETA and ETB endothelin receptors. Induces the production of hypoxia-inducible factor 1α, and, thus, the production of VEGF.

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 117399-94-7 includes 9 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 6 digits, 1,1,7,3,9 and 9 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 9 and 4 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 117399-94:
(8*1)+(7*1)+(6*7)+(5*3)+(4*9)+(3*9)+(2*9)+(1*4)=157
157 % 10 = 7
So 117399-94-7 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
