- Biomass derived β-cyclodextrin-SO3H as a solid acid catalyst for esterification of carboxylic acids with alcohols
-
A novel β-cyclodextrin-SO3H carbon based solid acid catalyst was prepared in a convenient and ecofriendly manner and was characterized using FTIR, PXRD, EDAX and NH3TPD to illustrate that the carbon material has been functionalized with -SO3H, -COOH and -OH groups. The catalyst was studied for esterification of various carboxylic acids and alcohols under solvent free conditions and showed excellent catalytic performance and gave good yields of esters in the range 78-99% at 70°C. No solvent was used either for catalyst preparation nor for esterification reaction. The catalyst can be easily recovered by simple filtration and reused for subsequent three runs without any significant impact on yields of products. The main advantage of this methodology is easy and ecofriendly catalyst preparation, easy catalyst separation, practical simplicity, safe reaction conditions, recyclable catalyst and high product yields.

- A new ferrocene-based bulky pyridine as an efficient reusable homogeneous catalyst
-
An effective approach to reusing a homogeneous catalyst has been demonstrated. A ferrocene-based bulky pyridine has been synthesized and utilized as a homogeneous catalyst for the synthesis of benzoylfumarates as well as for acetylation. After the reaction, the catalyst was separated by simple precipitation and reused without appreciable loss of activity. The Royal Society of Chemistry 2013.

- Synthesis of some alkyl acetates from alcohols catalyzed by H 5PW10V2O40and H5PMo 10V2O40 under microwave irradiation(Part 2)
-
The protection of alcohols under the environmentally benign microwave approach by the mediation of H5PMo10V2O40 and H5PW10V2O40 as vanadium-containing mixed-addenda heteropolyoxometalates with Keggin primary structure was investigated. The influence of microwave power on the progress of 1-butanol acetylation with acetic acid in the presence of a catalytic amount of H5PW10V2O40 has also been studied. To study the recycle ability and stability of the catalyst, H5PW10V2O40 was regenerated at the end of the protection reaction. The catalyst was washed with dichloromethane, dried at room temperature and finally was heated to 130°C for 3h. Catalytic amounts of cheap and simple Keggin type H5PM10V2 led to protection of alcohols with acetic acid in high yields, with reduced reaction times under solvent free conditions.
