- Liquid-phase Hydrogenation of β-Ionone on a Stationary Ni-Cr2O3 Catalyst in a Flow Apparatus under Hydrogen Pressure
-
We have studied the effect of various parameters (pH2, T deg C, H2 flow rate, etc.) on the kinetics and the selectivity of the hydrogenation of β-ionone on an industrial Ni-Cr2O3 catalyst in a flow apparatus by the "counter-current" and the "jet" method.Under comparable conditions the counter-current method offers an output approximately double that of the jet method, with a yield of dihydro-β-ionone approximately 6-8percent lower.

- Liquid-phase Hydrogenation of β-Ionone on Group VIII Metals with Hydrogen under Pressure
-
We have determined the selectivity sequence of metals in the hydrogenation of β-ionone to dihydro-β-ionone (an important starting compound in the vitamin industry). The selectivity of the metals is correlated with the donor properties of the metal and the state of the adsorbed hydrogen, i.e.Ni>Rh>Pt>Pd.

- Active Metals from Potassium-Graphite. Air-Oxidized Nickel-Graphite as a New Selective Hydrogenation Catalyst
-
Air exposure of Ni-Gr1 affords a modified, less active hydrogenation catalyst (air-oxidized nickel-graphite, Ni-Gr2), owing to a partial oxidation of the metal, which is able to reduce carbon-carbon, carbon-oxygen, and carbon-nitrogen multiple bonds under 30 atm of hydrogen in the temperature range 30-130 deg C.A remarkable bond selectivity in the hydrogenation of polyfunctional molecules such as unsaturated carbonyl compounds and β-diketones is observed.
